Age Related Cognitive Decline Can Be Reversed

Areas of Age Related Cognitive Decline

1 Memory
Is short term memory loss a problem for you? It can be a challenge to store and retrieve all the information we need to remember, even if it is just a short term memory. One of the most important types of memory is known as working memory, which is used for temporarily storing and manipulating information. Working memory is critical in many cognitive processes including reasoning, problem solving and language.

Research presented at the Bay Area Neuroscience Gathering in San Francisco, CA shows that the Lumosity Brain Fitness Program improves working memory. Only $6.60 a month.

2 Processing Speed
The Over time, the processing speed of the brain slows down, making it harder to catch information that comes in quickly. If we don’t capture information, we can’t recall it or act on it.

Processing speed is often considered a bottleneck for other cognitive functions and is common in age related cognitive decline. Brain fitness programs are designed to  gradually increase the speed at which we can reliably process information.

3 Accuracy.

As we grow older, the accuracy with which we process information from out senses declines. The information gets “fuzzier, making it harder to store in memory, recall or use.

Brain fitness programs are designed to improve the brain’s ability to make clear and strong representations of information.

4 Attention and Concentration
The ability to selectively concentrate on the most important information allows us to follow a conversation, drive safely, and efficiently attend to the task at hand.

Brain training has been demonstrated to improve visual attention in a study first presented at the 2006 Society for Neuroscience conference in Atlanta, GA.

Being able to concentrate harder has terrific benefits for overall mental performance and to reduce age related cognitive decline. "Attention is the base of a mental pyramid," says neuroscientist Drummond. "If you boost that, you can't help boosting everything above it."

5 Cognitive Control and Reaction Time
Often, the executive functions come into play when it is necessary to override responses that may otherwise be automatically elicited by stimuli in the external environment.

For example, on being presented with a potentially rewarding stimulus, such as a tasty piece of chocolate cake this behavior may conflict with your goal of losing 10 pounds. The executive functions might take over to say "No thank you." Or it might say "Let's eat it now and worry about the consequences later."

6 Recording
Our brains naturally release chemicals, called neurotransmitters, to record information that we decide is important. As we grow older, the brain system that controls the release of these chemicals grows sluggish.

When too few chemicals are released, recording is weak, making the information hard to find. We need to stimulate the machinery that produces brain chemicals that strengthen memory and enable learning.

May your Brain be nimble brain be quick.

Quicker than lightning...never missing a trick!
