A Brain Fitness Program Could Change Your Life

Do you often misplace your keys or forget a friend’s name? Just maybe a brain fitness program could revitalize that aging memory.

Your brain fitness is fine, right? It was just a "senior moment."

There could be more to it. A new brain study indicates that Alzheimers may be in your future.

Occasional forgetfulness is often written off as a "normal part of growing old and nothing to get alarmed about." In most cases, that is probably true.

However, new research found that in a disturbing number of cases, embarrassing "senior moments" such as forgetting a recent conversation or drawing a blank on someone's name may really be a sign of dementia or Alzheimers symptoms after all.

The study, which appears in Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology, questions the premise that memory loss in older adults is normal and not a sign of early dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.

Chicago scientists reached that conclusion after autopsies on the brains of 134 older people who had appeared to be mentally normal, apart from some subtle forgetfulness.

To their surprise the researchers found that the brains of more than one-third of the participants were riddled with waxy protein clumps and other signs of degeneration that are hallmarks of dementia and Alzheimer's disease.

"The brain is a wonderful miracle--the universe’s single greatest system ever," says Neuropsychologist, Dr. Paul Nussbaum, adjunct Associate Professor in Neurological surgery at the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Medicine.

Nussbaum has been involved in Researching dementia and Alzheimers for two decades.

"Put it this way," says Nussbaum, "We want our brains to look like a jungle, not an island with a single palm tree."

If you are having memory problems what can you do? Is it asking too much to change our brain, sharpen our memory and avoid the crippling diseases of dementia and Alzheimers?

The answer is "There is plenty you can do!" It's time to take a look at a brain fitness program.

Just a few years ago the experts in brain science believed that it was impossible to change your brain. Not any more.

In his book The Brain That Changes Itself, Norman Doidge, M.D., describes the remarkable brain “rewiring” pioneered by Dr. Merzenich and other brain scientists.

Memories have been dramatically improved, aging brains have been rejuvenated and the functions of stroke victims have been restored years after the event.

Merzenich has demonstrated that you can improve brain fitness with a brain fitness program. By practicing a new skill, under the right conditions you can change hundreds of millions of the connections between the nerve cells in our brain maps.

Dr. Merzenich says, "We know that brains grow and elaborate and strengthen when they are CHALLENGED, and that they change little when solutions are easy to come by.”

Lumosity is not the only "brain-training" site we've reviewed, but it is one of the most scientific. Their games have been lab-tested and shown to add to improve memory, attention and processing speed.

Two of my favorites are Bird Watching and Monster Garden. They are surprisingly fun, and I also like the feature of being able to track my progress.

For a Free Trial go to Scientific Brain Training: Lumosity Brain Fitness Program. The cost is only $6.60 a month. What do you have to lose...except maybe a little forgetting?

May your Brain be nimble brain be quick.
Quicker than lightning...never missing a trick!
